How to disable K9 filtering

Symptom

You want to disable K9 Web Protection to allow browsing of the Internet unfiltered.

Solution

You can permanently disable blocking of a single site by adding it to the Always Allow Exception list.

  1. Launch K9 from your Start menu, click [Setup], and login with your administrative password. Alternatively, you can navigate directly to http://127.0.0.1:2372
  2. Once you have logged in, click [Web Site Exceptions] in the left column.
  3. Type the site's URL in the Sites to “Always Allowed” text area and click [Add]. Repeat this procedure for each URL you want allowed.
  4. Click the [Save] button to save all URLs entered.

You can disable blocking of all sites by setting the protection level to "Monitor". This setting will not block any sites, but will still log traffic.

  2. Select the [Monitor] radial button under “Protection Level” and click the [Save] button.

Additionally, you can set K9 to "Supervisor Mode" which will allow all websites temporarily.

  2. Click [Other Settings] on the left hand navigation column.
